Proactive DLP
Preventing data loss Detect and block sensitive data in the files and e-mails
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) can help prevent potential data breaches and compliance violations by detecting and blocking sensitive and confidential data in files and emails, including credit card numbers and social security numbers. OPSWAT Proactive DLP supports a wide range of file types, including Microsoft Office and PDF.
Technology presentation – Proactive DLP
Manage compliance with OPSWAT Data Loss Prevention
To comply with industry regulations, such as the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), organizations are required to maintain the confidentiality of personal information (PII).
Moreover, in today’s increasingly litigious and highly competitive business environment, the privacy of confidential business information is an essential part of any company’s life. Confidential information, such as trade secrets, intellectual assets, financial statements, can be disclosed or sent to unauthorized persons through many channels, including email, the Internet, portable storage devices and cloud services. Data breaches can be costly, damage a company’s brand and reputation, and diminish the trust of customers and partners.
OPSWAT Proactive DLP can help organizations prevent sensitive and regulated data from leaving or entering the organization’s systems by checking the contents of files and emails before they are sent. MetaDefender can search more than 30 file types for confidential content, including Microsoft Office, PDF, CSV, HTML and image files.
What kind of sensitive data can OPSWAT Proactive DLP detect?
MetaDefender can detect the following personally identifiable information and sensitive data in files:
- Social security numbers
- Credit card numbers
- IPv4 addresses
- Classless inter-domain routing (CIDR)
- Custom regular expressions (RegEx)
Benefits of data loss prevention (DLP)
- Prevent sensitive and confidential data from entering or leaving the organization without compromising user productivity
- Ensures compliance with data regulations and industry security standards such as PCI, HIPAA, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, FINRA and others
- Specify custom rules to meet specific requirements
- Integrate Proactive DLP with multiscanning, deep disarming and content reconstruction, and file-based vulnerability assessment to provide comprehensive protection
How data loss protection (DLP) works
- Proactively detect and block sensitive data in files and emails in more than 30 supported file types
- Automatically redact identified confidential information in PDF files, MS Word documents and MS Excel spreadsheets
- Use optical character recognition (OCR) technology to detect and redact sensitive information in image-only PDF files or PDF files with embedded images
- Remove metadata containing potentially sensitive information, such as name, company, subject, GPS locations, authors, etc.
- Watermarked files for better security accountability and traceability
Use Cases
Checking the contents of downloaded and uploaded files
With MetaDefender Core and MetaDefender ICAP Server, you can check the contents of files for sensitive data when they are uploaded or downloaded from Internet applications, as well as check files that are transferred through Internet proxies, secure gateways, Internet application firewalls and storage systems .
Check emails for confidential information
To ensure PCI and other regulatory compliance, as well as to protect customers, MetaDefender Email Gateway Security can prevent emails with sensitive content from leaving or entering an organization by checking email content and attachments. MetaDefender Email Gateway Security can identify credit card numbers or social security numbers, and alert administrators when emails contain content that matches custom regular expressions.
Checking the contents of files during transmission to critical networks
With MetaDefender Kiosk, you can check the contents of files as they are transferred to and from critical networks, and block user-identifiable information or top-secret content with custom regular expressions.
Identify new confidential information custom in existing content
All files stored in MetaDefender Vault are constantly checked for confidential information. Therefore, if you set new custom types of confidential information based on regular expressions, the matched information will be automatically detected and redacted after rescanning the files. Scanning can be done periodically or on demand.
